description abstractGround-water detection monitoring decisions are complicated due to uncertainties in contaminant source characteristics and inherent variability of hydrogeologic conditions. The desire to meet multiple monitoring objectives presents an additional challenge. A novel approach using probability tools is presented to optimally determine the number and location of monitoring wells that compose a system for detection monitoring purposes.
