description abstractBy comparisons to measurements, the bulk-flow model for flow in the impeller annulus appears to work well. Baskharone and Hensel [1] presented CFD predictions for flow in the leakage annulus of a pump impeller based on a finite-element formulation. They showed major regions of flow recirculation in the leakage annulus that could raise challenges for a bulk-flow model [2]. Can the authors comment on this issue? For the first time, this excellent paper presents an integrated model for the flow fields through the impeller shroud and the exit labyrinth seals. The authors are to be commended for this contribution.
