    Abstract: A closed-form solution for the optimum tuning ratio of a liquid column damper (LCD) that is valid for damped structures subjected to generalized seismic loading is presented. The closed-form expression is based on the extension of the theory of “fixed-point” frequencies for a classical undamped structure-mass damper system to damped structure-nonlinear LCD system. For the specific case of white noise input, the values of optimum tuning ratio have been compared with those obtained from a standard expression.
