ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Improved Tribological Performance of Polydopamine/Polytetrafluoroethylene Thin Coatings With Silica Nanoparticles Incorporated into the Polydopamine Underlayer
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a solid lubricant with low friction coefficient. However, it lacks durability as a thin coating. Prior studies have shown that a polydopamine (PDA) underlayer enhances the coating durability. ...
In-Depth Exploration of the Multigrid Method to Simulate Elastohydrodynamic Line Lubrications With Smooth, Wavy, and Rough Surfaces
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Due to high efficiency, multigrid (MG) algorithms developed by Lubrecht and Venner or others have been widely applied to solve the Reynolds equation in lubrication simulations. However, such algorithms are complex in nature ...
Surface Texturing of Prosthetic Hip Implant Bearing Surfaces: A Review
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: More than 300,000 total hip replacement surgeries are performed in the United States each year to treat degenerative joint diseases that cause pain and disability. The statistical survivorship of these implants declines ...
The Effect of Bionic 3D Printed Structure Morphology on Skin Friction
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Dragonfly has remarkable flight efficiency, with unique wing structural properties such as the surface topological vein structures, corrugation, etc. The object of this paper is to identify how the polygonal patterns of ...
Analysis of Fluid Flow in the Sealing Gap of Radial Shaft Seals and Elastic Deformation of the Sealing Surface
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The function of a radial shaft seal is based on interactions between the sealing edge and the shaft counterface. To better understand these mechanisms, a look inside the sealing contact was taken. The procedure and the ...
Reviewer’s Recognition
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The Editor and Editorial Board of the ASME Journal of Tribology would like to thank all of the reviewers for volunteering their expertise and time reviewing manuscripts in 2020. Serving as reviewers for the journal is a ...
Intrinsic Heat Treatment Induced Graded Surficial Microstructure and Tribological Properties of Selective Laser Melted Titanium
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In the course of the selective laser melting (SLM) process, the part is built layer by layer involving partial remelting/heating of the previous layer, called as intrinsic heat treatment. Therefore, superficial properties ...
Surface Texture Characterization of Metal Selective Laser Melted Part With Varying Surface Inclinations
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Additive manufacturing offers the advantage of infinite freedom to design and fabricate complex parts at reduced lead-time. However, the surface quality of additively manufactured parts remains well behind the conventionally ...
Characterization of Sintered Bronze–MoS2 Composite With Solid Lubrication Effect
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The most efficient method to reduce material loss and frictional energy losses is by using lubrication. An alternative is the use of solid lubrication, specifically by using solid lubricants evenly distributed in a metallic ...
Tribological Behavior of Surface Textured Short Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Nylon Composites Fabricated by Three-Dimensional Printing Techniques
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, short carbon fiber-reinforced nylon (SCFRN) composites were fabricated using the fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology. In particular, different surface textures, namely convex squares and triangles, ...
