ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Parametric Instability of a Traveling Plate Partially Supported by a Laterally Moving Elastic Foundation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The parametric excitation of an axially moving plate is examined in an application where a partial foundation moves in the plane of the plate and in a direction orthogonal to the plate’s ...
On the Vibration of Bolted Plate and Flange Assemblies
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The vibration of an annular plate that is free along its outer edge, and that is connected to a flange along its inner edge by bolts that are equally spaced in the circumferential direction, ...
Finite Element Model for Hysteretic Friction Damping of Traveling Wave Vibration in Axisymmetric Structures
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A finite element method is developed to treat the steady-state vibration of two axisymmetric structures—a base substructure and an attached damper substructure—that are driven by traveling wave ...
An Investigation Into Using Magnetically Attached Piezoelectric Elements for Vibration Control
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A novel vibration control method utilizing magnetically mounted piezoelectric elements is described. Piezoelectric elements are bonded to permanent magnets, termed here as control mounts, which are ...
Nonconservative Stability of a Friction Loaded Disk
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper investigates the vibration of an annular disk that is subjected to rotation and in-plane frictional traction distributed over a sector of the disk’s two faces. Technical applications ...
Energy and Conserved Functionals for Axially Moving Materials
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Split Vibration Modes in Acoustically-Coupled Disk Stacks
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Vibration of an array of stacked annular plates, in which adjacent plates couple weakly through an acoustic layer, is investigated through experimental and theoretical methods. Such acoustic ...
In-Plane Vibration Modes of Arbitrarily Thick Disks
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The three-dimensional vibration of an arbitrarily thick annular disk is investigated for two classes of boundary conditions: all surfaces traction-free, and all free except for the clamped inner ...
Optimizing Vibration Isolation of Flex Circuits in Hard Disk Drives
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A “flex circuit” is a laminate of polyimide substrate, adhesive, and copper conductors that is used to connect the stationary electronic components in a computer hard disk drive to the rotating ...
Classical Vibration Analysis of Axially Moving Continua
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Axially moving continua, such as high-speed magnetic tapes and band saw blades, experience a Coriolis acceleration component which renders such systems gyroscopic. The equations of motion for the ...
