ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

The Axial Compressive Response of Thin, Elastic, Polygonal Shells
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Thin-walled cylindrical shell structures are revisited with the objective of increasing the axial load-carrying capacity. By using the postbuckling reserve of rectangular plates, polygonal shells are studied, which combines ...
Chiral Standing Spin Waves and Unidirectional Waves of Odd Elastic Cylindrical Shells
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Rotating waves can be observed in structures with periodic conditions, such as cylinders and spheres. Compared with traveling waves and standing waves, rotating waves have received less attention. In this paper, an odd ...
Dependence of Critical Stress Intensity Factor on Crack Depth From the Loading Boundary of Crystalline Silicon
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In the present work, an atomistic scale investigation is done on crystalline silicon to understand the effect of crack depth from the loading (pulling) boundary on the critical near-tip state of stress. For various depths ...
Propagation of the Fundamental Lamb Modes in Strain Stiffened Hard-Magnetic Soft Plates
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This study focuses on investigating hard-magnetic soft materials, characterized by magnetoactive polymers containing magnetically polarized particles as fillers. The research utilizes the Gent model of hyperelasticity to ...
Post-Buckling Analysis of Arch and Serpentine Structures Under End-to-End Compression
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Arch and serpentine structures are two fundamental structural forms with significant applications in various fields. When subjected to compressive loading at both ends, these structures undergo flexural-torsional post-buckling, ...
Erratum: “On the Analysis of Periodically Heterogenous Beams” [ASME J. Appl. Mech., 2016, 83(9), p. 091001; DOI: 10.1115/1.4033721]
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This erratum corrects errors in the originally published paper. The equations listed in the original manuscript have been found to include several typographical errors that make it impossible to understand the proofs presented ...
Determination of Dynamic Characteristics of Lattice Structure Using Dynamic Mode Decomposition
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this work, dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) was applied as an algorithm for determining the natural frequency and damping ratio of viscoelastic lattice structures. The algorithm has been developed based on the Hankel ...
Resolving Absorbed Work and Generalized Inertia Forces From System Energy Equation—A Hamiltonian and Phase-Space Kinematics Approach
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper develops a theoretical basis and a systematic process for resolving all inertia forces along generalized coordinates from the overall energy equation of a dynamical system. The theory is developed for natural ...
Three-Dimensional General Solutions of Orthorhombic Quasicrystals With Constraints
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This study employs the Lur'e operator method to derive generalized solutions for orthorhombic quasicrystals, incorporating anisotropy factors as constraints. The solutions derived contain the Lekhnitskii–Hu–Nowacki and ...
Size Effect of Yielding of Particle-Reinforced Composites
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper illustrates how particle size affects the initial yield stress of particle-reinforced composites. A formulation in a closed form is presented to demonstrate the size effect of yielding of the composites. This ...
