ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Mechanics of Buckled Kirigami Membranes for Stretchable Interconnects in Island-Bridge Structures
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Island-bridge structures incorporated with kirigami membranes emerge as a novel design strategy for flexible/stretchable electronics, taking advantages of large stretchability, high-surface filling ratio and low resistance. ...
Deformation of an Elastic Beam on a Winkler Foundation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: We present a simple model for geophysical systems involving sources of deformation, such as magmatic intrusions, subglacial lakes, and the subsurface storage of CO2. We consider the idealized system of a uniform elastic ...
Mechanically Tunable Solid/Solid Phononic Crystals Through the Rearrangement of Hard Scatterers Controlled by the Deformation of Periodic Elastomeric Matrixes
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The fixed band gap characteristic of passive phononic crystals (PCs) is possible to limit their applications in engineering. To overcome this shortcoming, inspired by the tunable mechanism of the spider silks, a new class ...
Scaling Effects on the Residual Thermomechanical Stress During Ice-Free Cooling to Storage Temperature
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Cryopreservation via vitrification (glass formation) is a promising approach for long-term preservation of large-size tissues and organs. Unfortunately, thermomechanical stress, which is driven by the tendency of materials ...
A Surface Energy Density-Based Theory of Nanoelastic Dynamics and Its Application in the Scattering of P-Wave by a Cylindrical Nanocavity
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The scattering of elastic waves in nanoporous materials is inevitably influenced by the surface effect of nanopores. In order to investigate such a dynamic problem with surface effect of nanomaterials, a new theory of ...
An Old Problem Reconsidered: The Wahl–Fischer Torsional Instability Problem
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The phenomenon of torsional instabilities found in rotating mechanical systems powered by induction motors was encountered in the late 1930s by Wahl and Fisher in a turnpike exhaust system. Subsequently, this phenomenon ...
Gap Test of Crack-Parallel Stress Effect on Quasibrittle Fracture and Its Consequences
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In the standard fracture test specimens, the crack-parallel normal stress is negligible. However, its effect can be strong, as revealed by a new type of experiment, briefly named the gap test. It consists of a simple ...
Coupled Piezoelectric Phononic Crystal for Adaptive Broadband Wave Attenuation by Destructive Interference
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, we report a piezoelectric phononic crystal plate featuring broadband wave attenuation. In the piezoelectric phononic crystal system, the transmitted elastic wave is attenuated owing to destructive interference ...
Steady Motion of a Slack Belt Drive: Dynamics of a Beam in Frictional Contact With Rotating Pulleys
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: We seek the steady-state motion of a slack two-pulley belt drive with the belt modeled as an elastic, shear-deformable rod. Dynamic effects and gravity induce significant transverse deflections due to the low pre-tension. ...
Mechanism-Based Energy Regularization in Computational Modeling of Quasibrittle Fracture
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Quasibrittle materials are featured by a strain-softening constitutive behavior under many loading scenarios, which could eventually lead to localization instability. It has long been known that strain localization would ...
