ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Controlling Journal Bearing Instability Using Active Magnetic Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Journal bearings (JBs) are excellent bearings due to their large load carrying capacity and favorable damping characteristics. However, journal bearings are known to be prone to instabilities. ...
Unbalance Response of a Jeffcott Rotor Incorporating Short Squeeze Film Dampers
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The steady-state unbalance response of a Jeffcott rotor incorporating short squeeze film dampers executing circular centered whirl is obtained by a fast algorithm. Savings in execution time of ...
PI Control of HSFDs for Active Control of Rotor-Bearing Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper describes the proportional integral (PI) control of hybrid squeeze film dampers (HSFDS) for active control of rotor vibrations. Recently it was shown that the automatically controlled ...
Modeling and Control of HSFDs for Active Control of Rotor-Bearing Systems
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: This paper summarizes the development of hybrid squeeze film dampers (HSFDs) for active control of rotor vibrations. Previously, it was shown both theoretically and experimentally that HSFDs can ...
Dynamic Analysis of Squeeze Film Damper Supported Rotors Using Equivalent Linearization
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The technique of equivalent linearization is presented in this paper as a powerful technique to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis of squeeze film damper (SFD) supported rotors using linear ...
Effect of Misalignment on the Characteristics of Journal Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Due to the renewed interest in the effect of misalignment on the dynamic characteristics of journal bearings, this paper presents a study of the effect of misalignment on the dynamic characteristics ...
Model Calibration of Anisotropic Rotordynamic Systems With Speed-Dependent Parameters
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, a method for calibrating rotordynamic models of speed-dependent systems with anisotropic support is presented. The method is based on the comparison between the calculated eigenvalues ...
Some Experiments on Oil Whirl and Oil Whip
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The oil whirl and oil whip phenomena have been well known since the early twentieth century. However, there is a lot of confusion on the parameters that affect the onset of instability. In ...
Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic Diagnostics of 1x Faults in Rotating Machinery
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this paper, the application of neural networks and fuzzy logic to the diagnosis of faults in rotating machinery is investigated. The learning-vector-quantization (LVQ) neural network is applied ...
Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Hybrid Squeeze Film Dampers
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A new concept for actively controlling high-speed rotating machinery is investigated both analyically and experimentally. The controlling mechanism consists of a hybrid squeeze film damper (patent ...
