ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Large Deformation of Notched Perfectly Plastic Tensile Bars
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Solutions are obtained for the large, nonsteady deformation of U-notched rigid/perfectly plastic tensile bars in the plane and axisymmetric deformation modes. The solution for the plane mode is ...
Design of Apparatus for Constant-Stress or Constant-Load Creep Tests
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Apparatus has been designed and built for conducting creep tests under constant-stress or constant-load conditions. An exact mathematical solution describing the shape of the cam lever for constant ...
Influence of Superimposed Hydrostatic Pressure on Bending Fracture and Formability of a Low Carbon Steel Containing Globular Sulfides
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Bend tests under superimposed hydrostatic pressure were carried out on a low carbon steel containing globular sulfide inclusions to investigate the variation of ductile fracture and forming limits ...
Freezing Range Effect on Shell Growth Instability During Alloy Solidification
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: During metal casting, nonuniform thermal strains due to small spatial perturbations in the cooling profile may lead to a condition of growth instability. This condition is one where the metal ...
Application of a Perturbation Technique Based on the Method of Characteristics to Axisymmetric Plasticity
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A perturbation technique is described which may be used for obtaining approximate solutions in plasticity when the field equations are hyperbolic. The characteristic parameters of the exact ...
Strip-Drawing Experiments With a Sigmoidal Die Profile
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Strip-drawing experiments were conducted to evaluate a sigmoidal die profile which, according to slip-line theory, can achieve perfect work efficiency and uniform deformation. The performance of ...
Discussion: “Application of Potential Flow Theory to Plane-Strain Extrusion” (Shabaik, A., Kobayashi, S., and Thomsen, E. G., 1967, ASME J. Eng. Ind., 89, pp. 503–511)
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Application of Spencer’s Ideal Soil Model to Granular Materials Flow
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In 1964, Spencer proposed a model for plane deformation of soils based upon the concept that the strain at any point may be considered as the resultant of simple shears on the two surface ...
Theory of Maximum Tensile Stresses in the Solidifying Shell of a Constrained Rectangular Casting
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A theoretical model is derived for determining the stresses that develop during the early stages of solidification in flat-sided ingot molds. The model requires flatness of the solidifying skin ...
A Generalization of the Upper Bound Method With Particular Reference to the Problem of a Ploughing Indenter
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: An algorithm based on a combination of the upper bound method and finite element repesentation has been developed. The algorithm is applied to the problem of a rigid indenter ploughing through ...
