ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Shear Stability of an Elastomeric Disk Spacer Within an Intervertebral Joint: A Parametric Study
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A parametric study was conducted to compare the resistance to shear force provided by three surgical implantation techniques and three endplate designs for use with a polymeric lumbar intervertebral ...
An Automated Method for Dynamic Analysis of Spatial Linkages for Biomechanical Applications
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A computer-aided analysis procedure is developed to obtain biomechanical information for unassisted and assisted upper extremity systems. An automated assembly procedure is derived which determines ...
Modeling of Facet Articulation as a Nonlinear Moving Contact Problem: Sensitivity Study on Lumbar Facet Response
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A finite element (FE) based scheme for modeling facet articulation in a spinal motion segment is proposed. The algorithm presented models the facet articulation as a nonlinear progressive contact ...
The Application of Scanning Acoustic Microscopy in a Bone Remodeling Study
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) was used in the evaluation of bone remodeling around a cylindrical unicortical defect. SAM is a technique for the nondestructive evaluation of materials, and ...
Finite Element Analysis of Vertebral Body Mechanics With a Nonlinear Microstructural Model for the Trabecular Core
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In this study, a finite element model of a vertebral body was used to study the load-bearing role of the two components (shell and core) under compression. The model of the vertebral body ...
Spatial Kinematic Analysis of the Upper Extremity Using a Biplanar Videotaping Method
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A biplanar videotaping system is used to generate spatial kinematic data of an upper extremity motion. The technique is based upon the characterization of each segment by four points in ...
Analysis of Dynamic Systems Using Heuristic Optimization
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: In certain dynamic problems, the determination of the applied torques at the joints from the measured displacement-time history is of interest, and is known as the inverse dynamic problem. A ...
Elastoplastic Micromechanical Modeling of Two-Dimensional Irregular Convex and Nonconvex (Re-entrant) Hexagonal Foams
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A nonlinear micromechanical model for two-dimensional irregular hexagonal foams has been developed that allows for anisotropy in morphology and/or material. Based upon the orientation, cross section, ...
A Learning Shell for Iterative Design (L’SID): Concepts and Applications
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A software shell called “Learning Shell for Iterative Design,” L’SID, has been developed in conjunction with a simple data matrix, the “learn table.” Histories of design are utilized in aiding ...
