ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

Response of a Rotating Shaft to Uniaxial Random Excitation
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Random vibrations are considered for a Jeffcott rotor subject to uniaxial broadband random excitation by a lateral force along one of its transverse axes. Exact analytical solution for mean ...
Marginal Instability and Intermittency in Stochastic Systems—Part I: Systems With Slow Random Variations of Parameters
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Dynamic systems with lumped parameters, which experience random temporal variations, are considered. The variations may “smear” boundary between the system’s states, which are dynamically stable ...
Marginal Instability and Intermittency in Stochastic Systems—Part II: Systems With Rapid Random Variations in Parameters
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Dynamic systems with lumped parameters, which experience random temporal variations, are considered. The variations “smear” the boundary between the system’s states, which are dynamically stable ...
Statistics of Combined Linear and Quadratic Springing Response of a TLP in Random Waves
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The paper presents the results of statistical analyses of combined first-order and second-order, sum-frequency response in heave, pitch, and roll of a TLP structure subjected to random, long-crested ...
Extreme Response of Nonlinear Structures With Low Damping Subjected to Stochastic Loading
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The response of structures with low damping to random loading is generally characterized by significant clumping of the large response peaks. This clumping is known to affect the extreme responses ...
Statistics of Extreme Events in Airgap Measurements
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The paper presents a study of the extreme value statistics related to airgap measurements on a scale model of a semisubmersible platform subjected to random waves in a wave basin. Relative ...
Nonsmooth Dynamics by Path Integration: An Example of Stochastic and Chaotic Response of a Meshing Gear Pair
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The probability density function (PDF) of the solution process of a nonlinear stochastic differential equation (SDE) is found in this paper using the path integration technique. The SDE is a ...
An Alternative Stochastic Representation of Drag Forces on Offshore Structures for Dynamic Analyses
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A new method for stochastic representation of the hydrodynamic drag forces on offshore structures subjected to irregular waves is described. For the case of zero current, it is shown that it ...
Stochastic Response Analysis of Deepwater Structures in Short-Crested Random Seas
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of estimating the response statistics of moored large-volume offshore structures subjected to short-crested random waves. A general second-order theory is described ...
An Efficient Numerical Method for Calculating the Statistical Distribution of Combined First-Order and Wave-Drift Response
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The paper describes an efficient and accurate numerical procedure for calculating the probability distribution function of combined first-order and slowly varying, second-order hydrodynamic loads ...
