ASME ( American Society of Mechanical Engineers )
Description: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a professional association that, in its own words, "promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe" via "continuing education, training and professional development, codes and standards, research, conferences and publications, government relations, and other forms of outreach." ASME is thus an engineering society, a standards organization, a research and development organization, a lobbying organization, a provider of training and education, and a nonprofit organization. Founded as an engineering society focused on mechanical engineering in North America, ASME is today multidisciplinary and global.

The Slack in a Stretched Thin Foil Bent Against Two Parallel Cylinders
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A stretched finite stiffness foil bent against two parallel cylinders is approximately analyzed. The difference between its length and that of a perfectly flexible foil under similar conditions, ...
The Propagation of Disturbances in the Infinitely Wide Foil Bearing
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: A technique for the solution of time-dependent foil bearing problems is presented in this report. Solutions obtained for typical disturbances which are introduced into the bearing indicate that ...
On Controlling the Film Thickness in Self-Acting Foil Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Some factors useful in overcoming excessive air gaps in foil bearings are investigated. Since the gaps of interest are small, the foil bearing equations are modified to include the effects of ...
Dynamic Analysis of Three-Foil Rotor Support System in Zero Gravity Environment
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The dynamic and static behavior of a gas lubricated bearing, consisting of stretched foil sectors, is analyzed. General equations describing the fluid film and valid for shaft excursions of the ...
On Fluid Inertia Effects in Infinitely Wide Foil Bearings
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Equations for a foil over a lubricating film in which the effects of fluid inertia are taken into account are derived. Approximate solutions showing the effect of inertia and fluid compressibility ...
Dynamic Behavior of a Foil in the Presence of a Lubricating Film
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Equations for the oscillations of a foil over a lubricating fluid film are derived and are simplified by a small parameter expansion. A few particular cases are discussed, and a linearized ...
Transient Analysis of a Planar Hybrid Foil-Bearing Model
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: Analysis of the dynamic behavior of planar foil bearings is presented for the case when both self acting and external pressurization effects are present. From it, responses to arbitrary ...
Application of Foil Bearing Theory to Vacuum Columns
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Reduction of Air Films in Magnetic Recording by External Air Pressure
Publisher: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
Abstract: The effect of external pressure exerted on foil bearings is studied. Analysis and numerical results are provided for its influence on the bearing gap. It is shown that a substantial reduction ...
