Comparison Between Predicted and Measured Axial Pressure Distribution Between Cylinders

Abstract: A technique for observing two-dimensional variations of pressures using a Manganin pressure transducer is presented. Comparisons are made between pressure predictions using a straightforward analytical tool for pressure analysis and experimental observations. These comparisons are made for the case of a roller with a cylindrical central region with a dub-off edge radius in both aligned as well as misaligned contact with a flat cylinder. Reasonable agreement is shown between theory and experiment. In addition, the theory has been found to be capable of isolating stress risers such as occur at sharp curvature changes between bodies in contact.
