description abstractThe influence of roughness on the interfacial pressure distribution in the contact of two spherical surfaces is considered. An approximate general solution is presented and it is shown that the pressure for all radii can be determined solely from a reference pressure which is, in turn, a function of two parameters—a dimensionless roughness and a dimensionless hardness. Values for the radius of contact are also presented.
