description abstractIn this paper, a fiber optics probe is described which is designed for diagnostics in emitting-absorbing flames. The probe is swept with constant speed through the flame to be investigated, and the spectrally resolved light signal received by the probe is recorded. As a sensitive check for the applicability of such a probe as a diagnostic tool, the curves of growth of the sodium resonance lines are measured, using a laminar temperature-shielded, sodium-seeded propane gas flame. The results demonstrate the usefulness of this probe for applications in flames containing solid particles.
