description abstractThe admissible stress states for creep at constant stress in a particular viscoelastic solid are determined by the condition that they must give rise to strain histories which satisfy the equation of compatibility at every instant. Analysis of this condition is carried out for homogeneous, isotropic, compressible or incompressible linear solids, and also for compressible or incompressible nonlinear solids, under the assumption that the deformations involved are small.
