description abstractThis issue represents a compilation of papers contributed by former students, colleagues, and collaborators of Professor Wolfgang Knauss, Theodore von Karman Professor of Aeronatuics and Applied Mechanics at the California Institute of Technology on the occasion of his 70th birthday. Most of these papers were presented at the symposium “Current Trends in Mechanics,” held on November 15–16, 2004 at the Graduate Aeronautical Laboratories of the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT), to commemorate this milestone.
