Transitions: A Note From the Editor

Abstract: It seems like only a few years ago that I started my first Associate Editor term with JEMT, but ten years have passed! It has been an honor and privilege for me to serve my term as Editor of JEMT since 1997, and to have worked with such a fine team of Associate Editors and a first-rate publications staff in New York headed by Connie Monahan. It is an experience I will cherish. I hope that I’ve been able to consistently push in the direction of making JEMT more timely, exciting, stimulating, and relevant to its readership, reflecting the leading edge of symposia organized within the ASME Materials Division. I am pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2002, Professor Huseyin Sehitoglu of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign embarked on his term as Editor. Over the next year I will finish up editorial duties on papers submitted to the Journal through the end of June 2002. Huseyin will build on his keen interdisciplinary interests in materials science and solid mechanics to lead JEMT into this next exciting era. Among his key objectives over the next few years will be the transition to electronic paper submission and review. I trust that this will significantly improve the timeliness of the review process via capability to more easily track papers through the review process. I would like to take this opportunity to invite readers of the Journal to submit their best papers for publication, and to thank both the Materials Division and its Executive Committee for their support over the past five years.
