| description abstract | The pressurization-flow characteristic of a helical viscous compressor is basic to the design of precision air bearings and non-contact gas seals which make use of the spiral-grooved surface feature. The method of Compressible Narrow Groove Analysis (CNGA) makes possible mapping of the pressurization-flow characteristic of a helical viscous compressor for a wide range of the compressibility number. In this manner, design features previously established by Quasi-Incompressible Narrow Groove Analysis (QINGA) are examined with respect to the influence of local compressibility. | |
