description abstractA closed-form Green’s function solution for the axisymmetric stresses in an elastic coil of superconducting magnets is presented, which provides the components of stress throughout the coil and includes the shear stress in addition to the normal stresses. The Green’s function method permits the development of a solution irrespective of the type of magnetic body forces within the coil. Green’s functions are derived by using finite Hankel transforms appropriate for a cylindrical coil.
