Abstract: This issue marks a change in editorship and I wish to take this opportunity to recognize the unselfish service provided by all of the associate editors (listed below) over the last ten years and to thank all of the reviewers and authors for working with me to make an outstanding archival publication. The reviewers, authors and associate technical editors have all worked hard to insure that the Journal of Vibration and Acoustics meets the consistent and high standard of the Society. I would also like to thank the dedicated ASME staff members who insure that the Journal comes out on time and in an orderly, professional style. Mr. Ray Ramonas, Ms Connie Monahan, and Mr. Philip DiVietro have contributed greatly to the success of several ASME journals, including this one. Last but not least, I have had the pleasure of working with three excellent clerical assistants: Ms Chris Jerome (1989–1992), Ms Vanessa McCoy (1992–1998), and Ms Beth Howell (1998–1999), who really ran the day to day business of the journal.
