Abstract: First attempts of oil offshore exploitation in Mexico were given with the installation, in 1967, of platforms located in the field of Santa Ana, in the southern Mexican part of the Gulf of Mexico. However, the formal development in gas and oil offshore exploitation was begun with the installation of the first drilling platform Akal C, in 1978, in the Bay of Campeche (BC).
