    Complex Variable Analysis for Stepped Thrust Bearings

    Source: Journal of Tribology:;1967:;volume( 089 ):;issue: 003::page 363

    Abstract: It is shown how simple series solutions can be found for the bearing characteristics of stepped thrust bearings with curved steps. Loads are shown to be higher than with straight steps. The simplicity of the form of the solution allows optimal parameters to be determined readily. Detailed results to illustrate the use of the solution are given for annular and square pads. It is noted that the rear “corners” of square pads could be deleted with advantage.
