description abstract | The novel quintuple hot-wire measurement technique was used to perform detailed measurements of the mean velocities and Reynolds stresses in an isothermal model combustion chamber at two different levels of swirl. The measured flow quantities are analyzed and described in detail where the emphasis is put on typical swirl-related effects as well as the interaction of rotation and turbulence dynamics. The results provide a well-documented data base for the development and validation of turbulence closures. They also serve to improve understanding of specific characteristics of swirl flows. | |
