Abstract: The design of the gear ratio and pitch curved surfaces of a new type of gear called as quasi-ellipsoidal gear is presented in this paper. The quasi-ellipsoidal gear can be applied to the flexible wrist of a robot and will make the wrist light and nimble, so the transmission precision will be greatly improved.
