description abstractThe existence of a “breathing” crack can not only cause variations in harmonic components but also produce extra transient components into vibration signals of a rotor system. In the present paper, the composition of cracked rotor vibration signals is studied first by some analytical methods. Based on this study, an approach of signal processing is suggested to detect transient components of the vibration signals and thereby the crack.
