    Abstract: This article gives a bibliographical review of the finite element method (FEM) applied to biomechanics. The bibliography at the end of the article contains references to published papers, conference proceedings, and theses/dissertations on the subject that were published from 1987 through 1997. The following topics are included: orthopaedic mechanics, dental mechanics, cardiovascular mechanics, tissue and organ mechanics, impact injury, biological flow, and other topics.
