    Abstract: The support arrangement is one of the important factors in the design of piping systems. Much time is required to decide the arrangement of the supports. We applied a genetic algorithm to find the optimum support arrangement for piping systems. Examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the genetic algorithm. Good results are obtained when applying the genetic algorithm to the actual designing of the piping system.
