Abstract: The authors demonstrate the utilization of a novel control architecture and associated algorithms in the maintenance of multiple constraints arising from machining operations. The control architecture is configured to allow the most severe of a series of constraints to control the feedrate, and thus duplicates the procedure which would normally be carried out in off-line optimization strategies. The use of the control in the maintenance of force and chip thickness constraints is analyzed and demonstrated using turning operations as an example.
