description abstract | In this work the effect of the surfactants on the wave growth is investigated analytically and experimentally. It is found that short waves are damped by surfactants quite effectively and since the natural wave growth begins with short waves, the transition to slug is shifted to higher gas velocities by a substantial amount. Slugs, in fact, form on level liquid surface. However, when long waves are produced by a wave maker, the slugs form in the usual manner. | |
