description abstractIn the present paper a method for the identification of faulty stages in a multistage compressor is presented. The values of overall compressor parameters, namely mass flow rate, pressure ratio, and efficiency, at different operating points are the input data to the method. Employing these data, the method gives the location and the number of faulty stages, as well as the amount of deviation from intact condition performance. It is shown that the kind of fault that has caused stage performance deterioration can be identified. Features of the method, such as generality of applicability, input data requirement, and reliability of the findings, are discussed.
