Abstract: This paper presents a method to calculate stresses of a cylinder with a partition plate, whose equations for determining bending stresses of a cylinder and its partition plate are different (less conservative) from those in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII, Division 1. The paper contains: 1) the derivation of equations for calculating bending stresses of a cylinder and its partition plate; 2) the comparisons between the method in ASME Code VIII-1 and the author’s method, and commentary on the equations for determining bending stresses of a cylinder and its partition plate in ASME Code VIII-1. Also, the recommendation to modify the equations for determining bending stresses of a cylinder and its partition plate in ASME Code VIII-1 has been put forward.
