description abstractA two-dimensional stress-analysis and digital-computer program has been developed for an impeller subjected to centrifugal force, external radial load and moment, as well as shrink fit. The impeller may carry radial blades and cover disk. The cover disk, if any, can be welded to blades starting from any initial radial location outward to the outer radius. The blade thickness can be nonuniform. The analysis determines stresses and deformations and, in addition, the required shrink fit of the impeller for a given overspeed (or the loosening speed from the shaft for a given shrink fit).
