    Abstract: An analytical procedure applicable for the experimental determination of initially existing residual stresses in long composite circular cylinders is derived within the framework of the drilling and turning technique. The method is demonstrated for a long cylinder composed of two different materials. An extension to cylinders composed of an arbitrary number of circular cylindrical layers can easily be derived in analogy to the described procedures.
