description abstractA symmetry reduction using a one-parameter spiral group is performed on a Reynolds equation in order to analyze this equation arising in the study of film lubrication. Approximate solutions are found for the time-independent case-both numerically and by the method of perturbation. Solutions to the time-dependent equation are found by using the invariance in the time and angular variables only. These solutions, called semi-invariant solutions, are determined through separation of variables.
