    Acoustic Emission Waves in Perfect-Bonded Bimaterial Plates: Numerical Simulations and Experiments

    Abstract: This paper utilized finite difference schemes to simulate the propagation of acoustic emission (AE) waves in isotropic, anisotropic plates as well as perfect-bonded bimaterial composite plates. Acoustic emission experiments were conducted to study the propagation of elastic waves in the aforementioned plates. The numerical simulated wave responses were in accordance with those measured experimentally. In the case of AE waves in perfect-bonded bimaterial composite plates, the agreements between the numerical and experimental results imply a possible application to the detection of perfect bonding. Demonstration of the effect of curing time on the acoustic emission waves in a bimaterial plate is also presented.
