| description abstract | A method for determining the transient responses of a system is introduced. This method is an extension of the component modal synthesis technique. The transient responses of the system are computed based on the substructure modal parameters, the geometric compatibility, and the force equilibrium equations between substructures. The eigensolutions of the final system are not required. In the process of calculation, the interconnecting force vectors between substructures are determined at each time step. The system responses are then computed from the force response equations. The external force vectors are approximated as the step function vectors in each time step. The transient responses of several systems are investigated. The solutions are compared to the close form solutions. The results indicate that the proposed method accurately determines the system responses and is numerically efficient. | |
