Abstract: The bending vibration of a structure composed of five rectangular thin plates, subject to point excitation, is investigated theoretically and experimentally. In the theoretical description the displacement amplitude function vector of the global system of combined plates is expressed as a linear combination of coordinate function vectors which satisfy all boundary conditions. The solution is not general since rotation only is allowed at the plate edges but a complex rotational stiffness can be assigned to all noncoupled edges such that constraints ranging continuously from the simply supported to the clamped condition can be modelled on computer. The results of prediction and scale model measurement are presented in the form of point and transfer accelerances and promising agreement is obtained both in terms of level and phase difference.
