description abstractIn this paper the nonequilibrium flow of a reading gas which is highly diluted with an inert gas is studied. As a typical example for such a gas mixture, air is considered under conditions where the oxygen dissociates to an appreciable degree while the nitrogen remains essentially inert. The resulting perturbation scheme is applied to the flow behind a normal shock wave and to the flow over a slender wedge. Viscosity, heat conduction, and diffusion are neglected in this treatment.
