description abstractA general mathematical formulation to analyze cracks in a multilayered medium is constructed. First, a matrix for a single layer is formed in the Hankel transformed domain. Then a global matrix is formed by assembling together each layer matrix. The displacement and stress fields are obtained by inverting the Hankel transform. Finally, the planar crack problem is solved by the boundary integral method. The results given are the crack opening displacement and the stress intensity factors.
