| description abstract | A solution is presented for a semi-infinite cylindrical (Timoshenko type) shell subjected to dynamic loading at one end using the method characteristics. Explicit results are obtained for the propagation of discontinuities. These results are combined with a simple numerical procedure to obtain the solution in all regions. Numerical examples are given for an elastic and a viscoelastic material and comparisons are made to previous results concerning wave propagation in shells. | |
