Abstract: A process model of the metal cutting process using a minimum energy input concept was formulated. The model relates the geometry of the workpiece to cutting force. Experiments in which cutting force was measured for various workpiece geometries verify the applicability of the concept and the usefulness of the model developed. Accurate process models not only allow for more precise control, but also present the opportunity for anticipatory control.
