description abstractElasticity solutions for a concentrated force near a smooth interface between two semi-infinite solids are given in terms of the Papkovich-Neuber displacement functions. The traction transmitted by the interface is found to possess several interesting properties. Furthermore, the traction for a smooth interface is compared with that for a perfect bond between the two semi-infinite solids. The limiting case of the force approaching the interface is discussed, and it is found that a parallel force in combination with a smooth interface is void of physical meaning.
