description abstractThe paper deals with the longitudinal sloshing of liquid in a flexible hemispherical tank supported along the edge. The axisymmetrical sloshing modes of a rigid hemispherical tank are first established using the kernel-function approach. Potential functions are introduced considering both the liquid sloshing modes and the shell-liquid interaction modes. Lagrange’s equation is used to establish the dynamic response of the system. The numerical data indicate that in general the intercoupling between the shell-liquid mode and the liquid longitudinal sloshing mode is weak. The amplitudes of liquid sloshing are found to be relatively small under perfectly axisymmetrical loading conditions.
