description abstractA study is presented of the statical deformation of a model of a supposed 3-constant isotropic elastic material which exhibits the phenomenon of couple stresses. A description of the design and construction of the physical model is given. The related theory is summarized briefly and used in order to determine the three independent elastic constants which characterize the model of the material. The specific constitutive equations are presented. Experimental results are given for the model loaded in a mode which may be called pure bending.
