description abstractBy means of well-known solutions of linear plane elasticity in polar coordinates, a remarkably simple formula is derived to calculate the distribution of hoop stresses at the boundary of a circular hole in an infinite sheet subjected to arbitrary (in plane) loads. The application of the formula is demonstrated with several examples.
