Abstract: An optimization procedure in the design of a viscoelastic dynamic damper is proposed for a single-degree-of-freedom primary system with the effects of prestrain taken into account. The performance is compared with that by a conventional spring-dashpot-mass damper. Applicability of the proposed procedure to a resonance-frequency-varying system is also shown.
