Instabilities in the Flow of a Boiling Liquid

Abstract: The time-varying flow of a boiling liquid through a series of ducts and heaters is considered for the case where the flow rate is controlled by a downstream orifice. It is shown that oscillatory flow will exist for a variety of configurations, provided that the density ratio across the system exceeds a critical value which depends on the geometry and the heat-transfer relationship.
