description abstractMany physical systems exhibit hysteresis which may be adequately described by a bilinear hysteresis model. This paper considers the response of such a system to sinusoidal excitation. It is shown that the system exhibits a soft-type resonance with stable, single-valued response curves. For such a system it is shown that there exists a critical value of the excitation, above which unbounded resonance occurs.
