Abstract: Combustion Engineering is under contract to EPRI to develop, construct and implement into a utility boiler a prototype on-line Boiler Stress and Condition Analyzer. The objective of the program is to develop and to demonstrate the analyzer’s potential to optimize the life of critical boiler components. The analyzer has been designed to assist the operator to warn of damaging transients, to optimize boiler start-up/shutdown rates and to accumulate unit operation data for the calculation of component life expenditure. The analyzer has been installed on the 1000-MW oil-fired Consolidated Edison Ravenswood No. 30 unit. This paper will outline the overall program and highlight significant results to date.
